Complete Umrah Guidance: A Step-by-Step Guide for Pilgrims
Performing Umrah is a profound spiritual milestone. At Al Rahman Travel, we are committed to ensuring that every pilgrim from the USA is fully prepared. This comprehensive guide covers everything from the physical rituals to the spiritual mindset required for a successful journey.
Understanding the Pillars of Umrah
Umrah consists of four essential pillars. Missing any of these can affect the validity of your pilgrimage:
Ihram: The sacred state and intention.
Tawaf: Circling the Holy Kaaba seven times.
Sa’i: Walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa.
Halq or Taqsir: Shaving or clipping the hair to exit the state of Ihram.
Step 1: Entering the State of Ihram
Your journey begins at the Meeqat (boundary).
Preparation: Before reaching the Meeqat, perform Ghusl (ritual bath), clip your nails, and groom yourself.
The Garment: Men don two white, unstitched cloths. Women wear modest, loose-fitting Islamic clothing.
The Intention (Niyyah): Declare your intention: "Labbayka Allahumma Umrah."
The Talbiyah: Recite the Talbiyah continuously until you reach the Masjid al-Haram: "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk..."
Step 2: Tawaf (Circling the Kaaba)
Upon entering Masjid al-Haram, approach the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) to begin.
The Ritual: Circle the Kaaba seven times in a counter-clockwise direction.
Supplication: There are no fixed du’as for each circuit, but the area between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone is where you recite: "Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan..."
Maqam Ibrahim: After completion, offer two rak’ahs of prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim (or anywhere in the Haram).
Step 3: Sa’i (Safa & Marwa)
Following Tawaf, head to the hills of Safa and Marwa.
The Walk: Start at Safa and walk toward Marwa. One way is counted as one lap. You will complete seven laps in total, finishing at Marwa.
Reflection: This ritual commemorates the struggle of Hajar (AS) and is a time for deep personal supplication.
Step 4: Completion (Halq/Taqsir)
To complete your Umrah and exit the state of Ihram:
Men: Are encouraged to shave their heads (Halq) or trim their hair significantly (Taqsir).
Women: Trim the length of a fingertip from the end of their hair.
